What is CEREC?

CEREC is a technology for restoring damaged teeth, and this restoration can often be completed in a single visit to the dental office. It restores the function of a damaged tooth using a tooth-coloured ceramic material. The restoration is metal-free, and the high-grade ceramic material is compatible with the natural tissue found in your mouth.

The CEREC Process

During your appointment, you and your dentist will discuss the details of the procedure and your dentist will answer any questions you may have. Your dentist will then use a 3D imaging camera to take a photo of your tooth. Using CEREC’s software, your restoration will be designed according to your tooth’s appropriate form and function. Then, CEREC will use diamond burs to create your restoration out of a piece of ceramic. Finally, the ceramic restoration is bonded to your tooth using adhesive dentistry.

Why Choose CEREC?

CEREC restorations differ from traditional crown fabrication in several ways.

Time: CEREC crowns can often be completed in one visit, which may reduce the number of appointments required.
Comfort: With CEREC, a temporary crown is generally not required.
Aesthetics: The tooth-coloured ceramic materials used with CEREC are designed to restore the function of the tooth and to closely match the appearance of your natural tooth structure.
Strength: Milled ceramic is fabricated as a single block of material rather than layered or pressed.
Fillings: CEREC material and technology can also be used for fillings. These restorations are made from ceramic rather than composite resin. Your dentist can discuss which material may be most suitable for your situation.
